St. John the Baptist and St. Joseph are committed to providing for the spiritual growth and catechesis of the youth of Tipton and Elwood. Registration for this youth program is FREE.
EDGE is designed for middle school students (6-8th grade) to start diving into their faith beyond the surface level. Taught in a semi-classroom setting, catechists will challenge the students to look within themselves in small-group discussion. Students in the Edge program will also start to learn many practical applications of their faith through involvement with their peers, the Parish, and the community. Youth group meets Sunday mornings after mass. Although this youth group will reference Catholic traditions (reception of Sacraments, prayer, Adoration, the Mass, the Creed), we will discuss many real-life topics that are influenced by our call to a Christian lifestyle. We welcome people of all beliefs to join us in a respectful, open environment.
EDGE is a lot more than "just" a youth group. We provide a systematic catechesis (fancy word for religious education) that is consistent with the teachings of the Catholic Church. Each semester will cover a different theme (Creed, Morality, Sacraments, etc.) that is bolstered by both fellowship (Social Nights) and real-world discussion (Issue Nights). We also provide opportunities to experience and connect to the larger community within the Carmel Deanery, which includes other parishes like Our Lady of Grace in Noblesville, Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Carmel, and Holy Spirit at Geist in Fishers, just to name a few. Some youth groups may "just" be a place to hang out, but St. Johns' EDGE program is not one of those places. We strive to provide a meaningful spiritual growth for participants with fun and fellowship!
